Embedding Part of a Google Spread Sheet

Have been getting a data analysis unit ready for my grade seven’s and have been looking at how to embed tables and charts from a Google spreadsheet to a WordPress blog.

To add a chart select the range of cells you want in your chart. Then from the insert menu select chart or gadget and pick the one you want to embed. After adding all appropriate information click on Publish Gadget and copy the code that appears.

In WordPress make sure you are in HTML view then paste the code into your post. I choose the FusionCharts Pie & Donut Widget that creates a chart with motion (if you click on a section of the chart below you will see the motion).

Creating a table can be done with a table gadget. I think I will probably end up using a WordPress plugin that enables table creation using the wordpress visual editor (MCE Table Buttons). However, there is a third way, I haven’t tried before and that’s embedding the spreadsheet into the blog post.

When you select from the drop down share menu of your spreadsheet one of the options is share as a web page. With this you can share and embed your entire spreadsheet. What I didn’t know is that you can share a range of cells as well. A seen below I have selected from c3 to d7 in the worksheet bullied (range=c3%3Ad7). I have also selected in the Web page drop down menu HTML to embed in a page.

In WordPress make sure you are in HTML mode then copy the code and paste it into your blog post. When I first tried embedding this table it required a login to our GApps for Education account. I thought this was due to sharing so I changed the sharing settings to public. This made no change so I removed the GApps for ed domain information (instead of https://spreadsheets.google.com /a/ student.ssis.edu.vn/pub I left it https://spreadsheets.google. com/pub). With this setup the table showed up as shown below. Worked with either the https or the http setting as well. Will be adding the step by step process to my WordPress Tutorial page tomorrow.
