A while back I was looking at how you could create Google bundles so teachers on our system had another way to subscribe to RSS feeds.
I did this by modifying a file that allows you to import blogrolls from blog to blog.
I think the simplest way to subscribe to multiple student RSS feeds is to use WordPressmu Sitewide Tags. This plugin puts every post from all the blogs in your system, along with categories and tags, to one main blog. At SSIS we collect all of our blog posts in Dragon Blogs. To add student work to your RSS reader all you need to do is have student bloggers use the same unique category or tag and subscribe to either.
While cleaning out my Evernote files I came across an untitled audio note. When I clicked on it I heard myself wondering about using the comment RSS feed to make it easier to track the comments my students were making (must have been a slow night in HCMC). On hearing this I thought back to when I had looked at how you could modify wp-links-opml.php and make a file to import all the blogs in a blog roll into your RSS reader. With a few other small changes this file could be changed to use a blogroll to generate an OPML file for you to track comments. So if a teacher had a class blogroll navigating to the file would create a page in OPML format that could be imported into a RSS reader and make the tracking of comments a bit easier.
Disclaimer: my php skills are somewhat like my beer making skills (I buy my beer) and although I have not found it yet there probably is another way of doing this.
update: might need to try this instead
I made a quick How To Guide for this here. And have added the file I modified (wp-links-comments.php) here.
