I spent a lot of time 30 + years ago playing a few games. In those days gaming was a bit different. Armed with quarters, you made your way to different locations around campus where the 68 inch tall 275 pound game was found. Galaga was my favourite. A few years back I found that you could find emulators for the mac that allowed you to play these games but gameplay using arrow keys was not all that exciting for me so I didn’t play the games that often.
For a little while the App Store had an app called Gridlee. Gridlee is MAME emulator so it is possible for an old-time Galaga addict like me to play the game on my iPad. Hopefully with a better interface than I had on my Mac.
At first I had problems getting anything to work but after a bit of searching I learnt a number of things:
- you needed to add game roms to the rom folder in the document folder of Gridlee
- you could add roms to the correct directory on your iPad with the right software (I already had iExplorer)
- not all games worked for me until I found out that mame emulator being used is a 0.139ul port
- a bunch of .rar files can all come together using the unarchiver
- people expect to be told how to do something instead of searching
Bottom line. Gameplay is much better on the iPad though a bit laggy. Although I would have no room at the cabin still think one of these would be better though.
