I have started using Doceri Desktop in my math class more frequently. Not sure why I waited this long as it will become a real useful tool.
I first used it to create animations for my flipped class. But on Tuesday I used it to give a review for an upcoming math test. The application allows you to write on your iPad and transmit everything you write to your computer. If the computer is hooked up to a projector you can walk around the classroom and anything you add to the Doceri screen will be visible to all.
The real cool thing is that you can record everything you do including the audio. So you have a video based recording of it all. The video below is a shortened two minute version of the 20 minute review we had.
I love my iPad but at times I find the sandboxing of the applications a challenge. Took me a bit of time to figure out how I could get a Doceri video to iMovie to do some editing. If I hooked up my iPad to my PowerBook this would be fairly easy. But I am trying to see what I can do only using my iPad. Fortunately iCab to my rescue once again. Doceri allows you to open a video in iCab. With iCab I can send my video to the photos app. In iMovie I can import the video from the photos app and export it to YouTube.
Tried this again today and it works well directly from Doceri. An awesome app!
Doceri also is an interesting way to examine teaching habits:? I mean read, with a little sarcasm:
- Do you think I could use the word sure a bit less
- Hmmm……. maybe a tenth of a second wait time is not long enough for an answer
created totally on an iPad with 80% of the content via siri and voice to text…… Apple needs to make this work better. Or maybe I need to move to a country with better bandwidth!
