Created a lot of drafts lately but not many posts. Time to actually publish some of these drafts.
I just came back from the Learning 2011 conference. Of the three Learning 2 conferences I have been at this was the best. The organizers, ask, listen, adapt and do a tremendous job. Because of this the format of the conference gets better each year.
I thought that;
- It was great to see old friends and watch them present.
- Having both workshops and unconferences was another good change that allowed for more choice. It was also made sessions smaller and for me more comfortable.
- Even though my participation was limited I enjoyed the Project Based Learning Cohort sessions. Rod Lucier lead our cohort in a low key way and you could feel the energy rise as people became more involved in the project. The age based discrimination I had to deal with was a crushing blow to my ego, can’t remember ever being called an “old man” before. 😎
- The mini-keynotes were also new. I was amazed by the poetry (without technology), the music with technology and the story told by two brothers. The last mini-keynote was an incredible end to the weekend.
On the plane back to Ho Chi Minh while reading and thinking about the sessions, conversations and keynotes I flashed back to Learning 2.008 and a post conference social where Robert and I were talking with Ewan Macintosh. After we talked about education, Scotland and the impact of the Sinclair computer he left us with one thought that I need to focus on.
Don’t just talk about it. Do it.
