Creating A Comment Feed

Steps needed to add student comments to your RSS reader. This involves using a slightly modified file and will only work within the SSIS system. It is my hope to pre create a series of Reader bundles for teachers wanting to track student comments

Pick the blog

I am creating the comment feed for a Humanities class so am using the blogroll of a student from that class.

Using the file I modified

I modified a version of the  wp-links-opml.php that comes with WordPress and allows you to import blog rolls from one blog to another. I called the file wp-links-comments.php. So to create the OPML file I start by using the url of the blog and adding wp-links-comments.php. In this example http:/blog.ssis.edu.vn/102420/wp-links-comments.php as shown above.

Download and Change the Filename

Once you have the file in your browser window you need to save the file with an OPML extension.

Go to your Reader Settings

Go to your Google Reader and select settings.

Go to the Import Tab

Click on the Import/Export Tab and browse to find the Humanities.opml file that was just created. Then open the file and click on upload.

Upload the OPML file

After you upload the OPML file you should see new subscriptions in Google Reader. Notice that the Link Roll headings found on the blog are also the subscription folders found in Greader.

View Comments

As you can see the comments are visible in Google Reader and you can also see the comments received by individual student as well as who made the comment.
