I have looked at blogs and how they might be used for student learning and assessment for a while. We have had one semester at SSIS where the blogs came close to what I have read about and imagined might be possible. I think we are starting to get close to a critical mass of interested people and hopefully we can have a unified direction to move in with at least two grade levels. It all depends on the focus and direction each grade level team decides on.
I think our blogs can become :
- a grade 3 through 12 snapshot of a student’s life at SSIS.
- a space where students create a positive public digital identity.
- a space that has common elements but many different student chosen themes
Over the past few days I have explored how student blogs might be created so that each blog has common components, lists, tags, categories and menus. Through the creation of portfolio blog template and standard lists I think this will be easy to create a portfolio blog that is both personal and to some extent standardized.
